The role of the school nurse is to strengthen and assist the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of all students, focusing on prevention of illness and disability and early detection and correction of health problems.

Children should stay home from school (or need to leave school) for the following reasons:
Vomiting in the last 24 hours from illness
Fever- 100 F or greater
Diarrhea-that is not from dietary sources or from a gastro-intestinal chronic illness.
Cough that disrupts the classroom
Antibiotics Therapy (less than 24 hours)
Generalized rash of unknown origin
est with any new and unexplained symptom-People with these symptoms may have COVID-19: However, existing chronic conditions, including but not limited to; migraines, lyme, asthma and allergies should be documented on a students’ health record. This may help the school Nurse differentiate between chronic conditions and COVID symptoms.
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting, stomachache
Diarrhea
Covid Testing- Home testing kits are a new option, they are available in drug stores. Send a picture of the test results to ssarraf@sau39.org and if the test is negative your child may return to school if symptoms are improving(sore throat, congestion, cough). Again, students need to be 24 hour symptom free of fever, vomiting and diarrhea. Contact your healthcare provider for other testing options.
