What is Title I?
Title I is a 100% federally funded supplemental education program that provides assistance to local educational agencies to improve educational opportunities for students at risk and students who are not meeting the State of NH standards.
What type of Title I Program does AMS have?
Amherst Middle School is a targeted assistance school (TAS). A TAS is required to use funds only for programs that provide services to eligible children identified as having the greatest need for additional assistance. Targeted Assistance Schools, therefore, may not provide services to all children in the school or in particular grades. At AMS, Title I is available to identified students in grades 5-8.
What content do Title I programs focus on?
Title I programs are designed to help children meet the state content and performance standards in reading, language arts, and mathematics. The goal is to support Title I students so they can meet the challenging state performance standards that all children are expected to master. Our Title I program uses effective instructional strategies that give primary consideration to extended-time strategies, high quality curricula, and coordination with the regular education program.
How does my child become eligible for Title I services?
Amherst Middle School uses multiple data points to determine eligibility for our Title I summer program. Those data points include NWEA MAP assessment results, Smarter Balanced assessment results, and teacher recommendation.
Will I be notified if my child is eligible for the Title I program?
Yes, a permission letter will be sent to all parents of eligible children selected for participation in the Title I summer program.
