Class Registration for 2023-24

 7th and 8th Grades

We are beginning our transition planning for the 2023-24 School Year at Amherst Middle School and need your assistance in the scheduling selection process for Integrated Arts classes for your rising 7th grade and 8th grade students.

All 7th and 8th grade students will be scheduled for Integrated Arts classes as follows:

  • World Language:  most 7th and 8th grade students are scheduled into a World Language class, continuing their study of French or Spanish
  • Wellness:  all students are automatically scheduled for Physical Education and Health classes
  • All students may select band and/or chorus in addition to their elective choices. For the 2023-2024 school year, we are trying to schedule Band and Chorus independently of the Electives classes and so they are not included in the electives options above; BOTH band AND/OR chorus may be selected in addition to other selections, including other music electives.

  • We strongly encourage parents to review elective options with their students to identify the classes that both meet student interest and provide a range of experiences

Rising 5th Grade Student Email

March 29, 2023

Dear Families of Current 4th Grade Students,

We are beginning our transition planning for the 2023-24 School Year at Amherst Middle School and need your assistance in scheduling the music class for your 4th grader (rising 5h grader).

All 5th grade students are automatically scheduled into the following Integrated Arts classes on a rotating basis throughout the year: Art, Computer Skills, Family & Consumer Sciences, Innovation & Design, Physical Education and Health.

Rising 5th grade students will need to select the music class they will follow for the year:

  • General Music:  General Music classes include music reading skills, a little singing, playing bells and keyboards, ukulele and a little music history.

  • Chorus:  AMS has produced some amazing choruses in past years.  This class will include some music reading but mostly it is about singing together.  This class is also a great foundation for those interested in music theatre or solo performance.  And...it's fun!

  • Band:  This is the class for students who want to learn a concert band instrument.  No prior experience is needed! We start from the beginning.  Pick an instrument and check the Music area of the AMS website in early September for needed materials and how to rent an instrument.  If you choose this option, you MUST CHOOSE from among the instruments listed in the band information section. Specific information on the band program is linked below:
